SSI moves a step further to become an innovative organization focusing on research and development (R&D) in international level after its research work has been selected to present in the Materials Science & Technology 2010 Conference & Exhibition (MS&T) in the USA. This signifies potential of the organization and the personnel which have been accepted internationally and this is also in line with new business plan aiming at SSI’s visions: ‘Innovate premium value steel products and services for customer; generate consistent profit and sustainable value for stakeholders’
Mr. Win Viriyaprapaikit, President of Sahaviriya Steel Industry PLC or “SSI”, revealed that after the Company implemented a new business plan with visions: : ‘Innovate premium value steel products and services for customer; generate consistent profit and sustainable value for stakeholders’, SSI has proceeded to strengthen its R&D works continually to lift up a steel industry to become an innovative organization. Recently, SSI succeeded in advancing into 2 international conferences this year and SSI also determines to create more research works to present in the international conferences continually in the future.
Mr. Win said that the first research work: “Normalizing Condition – Microstructure-Mechanical Properties Relation of Hot Rolled Steel Strip for Gas Cylinder Production” has been selected to present in the Materials Science & Technology 2010 Conference & Exhibition (MS&T). Such research work is an in-dept research focusing on the study of normalizing condition of microstructures-mechanical properties relation of hot rolled steel strip for gas cylinder. This is an important work to develop quality of hot rolled steel strip for gas cylinder in order to respond to the sophisticated needs and add value to the products of gas cylinder’s customers. Additionally, it is also a creation of research work and important knowledge to be further utilized or sustainable develop the gas cylinder production industry that can be truly used in reality.
Materials Science & Technology 2010 Conference & Exhibition (MS&T) is regarded as the one of the world’s most important and biggest conferences to disseminate R&D works on materials engineering technology. MS&T’10 shall be arranged during October 17-20, 2010 in Houston, Texas, USA with the cooperation of 4 leading organizations on materials: The American Ceramic Society (ACerS), Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST), ASM International (ASM) and The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society (TMS). This conference is served as an arena to exhibit the advancement on innovation on production technology and materials development and it is also an arena to promote knowledge and understanding, exchange knowledge on materials technology among the participants who are experts on materials from the leading universities and companies throughout the world. There were more than 3,000 participants participated in its latest conference.
Another research work which has been selected to participate in the 8th International Conference on Fracture and Strength of Solid in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is “Correlation between Chemical Composition as well as Rolling Conditions and Mechanical Properties of Hot-Rolled Low Carbon Steels Using Statistical Multiple Regression Analysis”.
“This is the first time that SSI has submitted its research work to participate in the Materials Science & Technology 2010 Conference & Exhibition (MS&T) which is an international conference and it has been accepted to be presented and published in the world conference forum since the first time it has been submitted. This can guarantee an acceptance and creditability of SSI’s R&D works in the world arena. Moreover, SSI also submitted its research works to the academic conferences both in domestic and abroad, for instance, the 8th International Conference on Fracture and Strength of Solid in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia of which our research work has already been accepted to be presented there and other domestic one is The Sixth Thailand Materials Science and Technology Conference (MSAT-6) of which our research work is now awaiting for a feedback from the National Science and Technology Development Agency (NSTDA),” said Mr. Win.
With regards to creation of research work in the national level, SSI has requested for certification of its 53 projects (value of research work are more than Baht 45 million) from National Science and Technology Development Agency or NSTDA continually since 2006. There are many projects that the experts recommended that they should be registered for patents. Moreover, SSI is the first and only company in the steel companies group in Thailand that submitted a lot of research works to NSTDA each year. This can emphasize strong intentions and importance-focus on R&D works in order to build up a sustainable knowledge based organization and it can reflect the commitment to become an innovative organization as well as can guarantee that SSI is success in encouraging its personnel to place importance on the research works.

นายวิน วิริยประไพกิจ กรรมการผู้จัดการใหญ่ บริษัท สหวิริยาสตีลอินดัสตรี จำกัด (มหาชน) หรือ เอสเอสไอ เปิดเผยว่าหลังจากที่บริษัทประกาศใช้แผนธุรกิจฉบับใหม่พร้อมวิสัยทัศน์ “สร้างสรรค์นวัตกรรมผลิตภัณฑ์เหล็กและบริการที่มีมูลค่าเพิ่มกับลูกค้า สร้างกำไรสม่ำเสมอ สร้างผลตอบแทนแก่ผู้มีส่วนได้เสียอย่างยั่งยืน” และได้เดินหน้าเสริมความแข็งแกร่งด้านการวิจัยและพัฒนาอย่างต่อเนื่อง เพื่อยกระดับอุตสาหกรรมเหล็กมุ่งสู่การเป็นองค์กรแห่งนวัตกรรมแล้วนั้น ล่าสุดเอสเอสไอ ประสบความสำความสำเร็จในการก้าวสู่เวทีการประชุมวิชาการนานาชาติสากลถึง 2 งานในปีนี้ และมุ่งมั่นที่จะเดินหน้าสร้างสรรค์ผลงานวิจัยสู่เวทีระดับสากลเพิ่มขึ้นอย่างต่อเนื่องในอนาคต
นายวินกล่าวว่า งานวิจัยชิ้นที่หนึ่ง คือ “Normalizing Condition-Microstructures-Mechanical Properties Relation of Hot Rolled Steel Strip for Gas Cylinder Production” ซึ่งได้รับคัดเลือกให้นำเสนอผลงานวิจัยและพัฒนาในการประชุมทางวิชาการและแสดงผลงานวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีด้านวัสดุ MS&T ประจำปี 2010 ซึ่งงานวิจัยดังกล่าวเป็นงานวิจัยเชิงลึกที่มุ่งศึกษาผลการอบปกติต่อของโครงสร้างจุลภาค สมบัติทางกลของเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนสำหรับถังแก๊ส นับเป็นงานวิจัยชิ้นสำคัญในการพัฒนาคุณภาพเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนสำหรับถังแก๊สเพื่อสนองตอบต่อความต้องการขั้นสูงและเพิ่มมูลค่าของผลิตภัณฑ์ให้กับลูกค้ากลุ่มผู้ผลิตถังแก๊ส ทั้งยังเป็นการสร้างสรรค์งานวิจัยและองค์ความรู้ที่สำคัญสำหรับการต่อยอดหรือพัฒนาอย่างยั่งยืนในอุตสาหกรรมการผลิตถังแก๊สที่สามารถนำไปใช้ได้จริงอีกด้วย
ทั้งนี้ประชุมทางวิชาการและแสดงผลงานวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีด้านวัสดุ MS&T ประจำปี 2010หรือ Materials Science & Technology 2010 Conference & Exhibition ถือเป็นงานประชุมทางวิชาการเพื่อเผยแพร่ผลงานวิจัยและพัฒนาทางด้านเทคโนโลยีวิศวกรรมด้านวัสดุที่ยิ่งใหญ่งานหนึ่งในระดับนานาชาติ งานประชุม MS&T’10 ครั้งนี้จัดขึ้นระหว่างวันที่ 17 ถึง 20 ตุลาคม 2553 ที่เมืองฮูสตัน รัฐเท็กซัส ประเทศสหรัฐอเมริกา โดยความร่วมมือระหว่าง 4 องค์กรชั้นนำทางด้านวัสดุได้แก่ สมาคมเซรามิกแห่งอเมริกา (The American Ceramic Society, ACerS) สมาพันธ์เทคโนโลยีเหล็กและเหล็กกล้า (Association for Iron & Steel Technology, AIST), สมาคมโลหะแห่งอเมริกา (ASM International ,ASM)และสมาคมแร่ โลหะ และวัสดุ (The Minerals, Metals & Materials Society, TMS) เพื่อเป็นเวทีในการแสดงความก้าวหน้าทางนวัตกรรมด้านเทคโนโลยีการผลิตและการพัฒนาวัสดุ รวมถึงยังเป็นเวทีในการส่งเสริมความรู้ความเข้าใจ แลกเปลี่ยนความรู้ทางด้านเทคโนโลยีวัสดุจากผู้เข้าร่วมงานซึ่งล้วนเป็นผู้เชี่ยวชาญทางด้านวัสดุจากมหาวิทยาลัยและบริษัทชั้นนำทั่วโลก โดยในการจัดประชุมครั้งที่ผ่านมามีผู้เข้าร่วมสัมมนากว่า 3,000 คนจากทั่วโลก
และอีกหนึ่งงานวิจัยที่ได้รับการคัดเลือกให้เข้าร่วมการประชุมวิชาการนานาชาติด้านการแตกหักและความแข็งแรงของของแข็ง ครั้งที่ 8 (8th International Conference on Fracture and Strength of Solids) ที่ กัวลาลัมเปอร์ ประเทศมาเลเซีย คือ “Correlation between Chemical Composition as well as Rolling Conditions and Mechanical Properties of Hot-rolled Low Carbon Steels Using Statistical Multiple Regression Analysis” ซึ่งเป็นงานวิจัยที่ศึกษาผลของส่วนผสมทางเคมี เงื่อนไขการรีด ต่อสมบัติทางกลของเหล็กกล้าด้วยกรรมวิธีทางสถิติ และสามารถประยุกต์ใช้กับงานด้านการทดสอบในอุตสาหกรรมเหล็กแผ่นรีดร้อนได้เป็นอย่างดี
“นับเป็นครั้งแรกที่เอสเอสไอได้ส่งผลงานวิจัยเข้าร่วมการประชุมวิชาการและแสดงผลงานวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีด้านวัสดุ “MS&T” ประจำปี 2553 ซึ่งเป็นเวทีในระดับสากล และได้รับการตอบรับให้นำเสนอและตีพิมพ์ในเวทีการประชุมวิชาการระดับโลกตั้งแต่ครั้งแรกที่ส่งเข้าร่วมนี้ทันที ซึ่งนับว่าเป็นสิ่งที่ยืนยันถึงการยอมรับ และความเชื่อถือในงานวิจัยและพัฒนาของเอสเอสไอในเวทีระดับโลกได้เป็นอย่างดี และขณะเดียวกันยังมีงานวิจัยที่ส่งเข้าร่วมงานประชุมวิชาการทั้งในระดับประเทศ และนานาชาติอีก เช่น งานวิจัยและพัฒนาในการประชุมวิชาการนานาชาติด้านการแตกหักและความแข็งแรงของของแข็ง ครั้งที่ 8 ที่เมือง กัวลาลัมเปอร์ ประเทศมาเลเซีย ซึ่งได้รับการตอบรับเพื่อนำเสนอแล้ว และงานประชุมวิชาการ วิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีวัสดุแห่งประเทศไทยครั้งที่ 6 (MSAT-6) ประจำปี 2553 ซึ่งอยู่ระหว่างรอการตอบรับจาก สวทช. “นายวินกล่าว
ในด้านการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานวิจัยในระดับประเทศเองนั้น เอสเอสไอ ดำเนินการขอรับรองเป็นงานวิจัยจากสำนักงานพัฒนาวิทยาศาสตร์และเทคโนโลยีแห่งชาติหรือ สวทช. อย่างต่อเนื่องมาตั้งแต่ปี พ.ศ. 2549 จำนวน 53 โครงการ (มูลค่าโครงการวิจัยกว่า 45 ล้านบาท) และมีหลายโครงการที่ผู้ชำนาญการให้ความเห็นว่าควรค่ากับการนำไปจดสิทธิบัตร นอกจากนี้ เอสเอสไอถือเป็นบริษัทแรกและบริษัทเดียวในกลุ่มผู้ผลิตเหล็กในการส่งผลงานวิจัยแก่ สวทช. เป็นจำนวนมากในแต่ละปี ซึ่งแสดงให้เห็นถึงความมุ่งมั่นและเล็งเห็นความสำคัญของงานวิจัยและพัฒนาเพื่อก่อให้เกิดองค์ความรู้อย่างยั่งยืน เป็นสิ่งที่ยืนยันความสำเร็จในการสร้างสรรค์ผลงานวิจัย และสะท้อนความมุ่งมั่นที่จะก้าวสู่การเป็นองค์กรแห่งนวัตกรรม และการันตีว่าเอสเอสไอประสบผลสำเร็จในการรณรงค์ให้บุคลากรเล็งเห็นถึงความสำคัญของงานวิจัยได้เป็นอย่างดี
“การที่เอสเอสไอ ได้รับคัดเลือกให้นำเสนอผลงานวิจัยและพัฒนาในการประชุมวิชาการในระดับโลกแสดงให้เห็นถึงศักยภาพขององค์กรและบุคลากรด้านการวิจัยและพัฒนาของบริษัทรวมถึงประเทศไทยที่ได้รับการยอมรับในระดับสากล ซึ่งหน่วยงานวิจัยและพัฒนาของบริษัทยังมีแผนการดำเนินการโครงการวิจัยและพัฒนาอย่างต่อเนื่อง เพื่อนำพาองค์กรก้าวสู่การเป็นองค์กรแห่งนวัตกรรม มุ่งเน้นการวิจัยและพัฒนาเพื่อให้เกิดองค์ความรู้และการพัฒนาอย่างยั่งยืน” นายวินกล่าว
